Transport

All modes of transport (air, sea, rail, road or river) are affected each year by lightning.

transports

Airports and airlines Managers want to secure the tarmac during refuelling operations and also need lightning information to manage the safety of passengers and crews.

Air traffic controllers can use lightning information to identify active lightning storm cells and optimize the management of takeoffs and landings.

Sea and river ports managers need to manage lightning risk during crane operations and for loading and unloading of sensitive cargos (chemicals, powders, oil and gas...).

In the rail sector, many failures result from lightning strokes (e.g. catenary weakening, signal or electrical problems). The location of lightning strikes allows to rapidly target precise areas where to check for existing problems or pending failures and efficiently send maintenance crews to fix them.
